Naturopathic medicine is well suited to address the complex needs of cancer survivors.
Our whole-person approach considers mental, physical, and spiritual health, which is crucial given the interconnected nature of symptoms and the high prevalence of emotional concerns post-cancer. Our extended visit times allow for a deep understanding of individual needs and the implementation of comprehensive management strategies, including nutrition, exercise, herbal medicine, and lifestyle modifications. A collaborative approach with other health care providers is often optimal, and I frequently refer to other providers as needed for counselling, medication, blood work, or other treatments. This holistic, personalized, and collaborative care model effectively supports the multifaceted journey of cancer survivorship.
Specific symptoms and side effects I commonly work with include:
Physical: Fatigue, memory and cognitive concerns, changes in sexual function, nerve problems, digestive complaints, menopausal symptoms, loss of muscle mass (sarcopenia), and pain.
Emotional: anxiety, worry about recurrence, depression
Late effects: cardiovascular disease risk, osteoporosis risk, fertility concerns, insulin resistance/diabetes
